A passport renewal, a visa application and an embassy appointment may use different photo specifications. Do not transfer one service’s limits to another. ExactKB changes file size and can cap dimensions. It cannot assess your identity, pose, lighting, background, recency or eligibility.
US visa digital-image requirements
The US Department of State’s digital-image requirements, checked 27 September 2026, specify a square JPEG, 600–1200 pixels on each side, color in sRGB, a maximum 240 kB file size, and compression-ratio guidance of no more than 20:1. Read its linked photo requirements as well. These are US visa digital-image requirements, not a universal passport standard.
For a conservative 240,000-byte ceiling, use a custom target of 240 with binary units off. A 600-pixel longest-side cap alone does not ensure a 600×600 square: a non-square input stays non-square, and a small byte budget can reduce it further. Crop with an appropriate editor first and verify the downloaded dimensions. ExactKB does not certify color space or compliance with the authority’s compression-ratio rule.
India and other passport services
Use your current application’s instructions on the official Passport Seva website or the responsible embassy’s site. This guide does not assert a current Indian upload-size range. The tool’s portrait-box preset is only a 630×810 maximum bounding box; it is not an official passport preset and does not enforce a crop.
Before you submit
- Confirm the original already meets composition and background requirements.
- Keep the original; compress a separate copy.
- Check actual file format, exact byte count, width and height.
- Open the output and inspect facial detail and orientation.
- Use the authority’s own validation process. A green size badge here is not an approval decision.
