Use the current official instructions
Open the relevant examination notice on the Union Public Service Commission website and the upload instructions in the official application portal. Check the year and application stage. This guide does not claim that an old file-size range, an affiliated portal’s rule or a previous application still applies.
Write down the permitted format, file-size range, pixel dimensions, and any photograph or signature-specific instructions. If the application requests a live capture or another workflow, follow that rather than assuming an uploaded compressed file can replace it. ExactKB is independent of UPSC and cannot submit or approve an application.
Translate the limit into bytes
If your actual notice specifies a 100,000-byte ceiling, a binary target of 100 is too high: it permits 102,400 bytes. Uncheck the binary option for a 1000-byte KB. A displayed 99.8 KiB is approximately 102,195 bytes and therefore does not fit 100,000 bytes. A 99,800-byte file does fit. This example explains units; it does not state a current UPSC limit.
Choose settings from the notice, not from a label
Use the main compressor for a custom target, or start at 50 KB, 100 KB or 200 KB only when that target suits the actual rules. The size presets are conveniences, not official specifications. They can reduce dimensions below a required minimum, so check the result card.
Photograph and signature are different inputs
A signature needs clean, legible strokes; a photograph needs recognizable facial detail. Crop each correctly before compression. Do not enlarge a tiny or blurred input expecting compression to recover detail. If the destination specifies a minimum file size as well as a maximum, verify both. This tool does not pad files to meet a minimum.
Final check
Download the processed file and reopen it. Verify its real format, dimensions and exact bytes. Keep your original and the official instructions beside it while checking. If the upload is rejected despite fitting the size cap, read the rejection message and check format, crop and dimensions before repeatedly lowering quality.
